Will the Democrat Push for Gun Control Backfire?
Democrats in the House have a pile of grand plans to shift the United States as far left as they can get it. Among those plans are Rep Mike Thompson’s plan to criminalize private gun sales, as we mentioned previously. He has met with numerous anti-gun groups to formulize the plan to keep you and I from even giving a gun to our sons and daughters as a gift. But their incessant push may backfire, and could actually help the NRA and even gun sales, according to Bloomberg.com.
Think about it- criminalizing such transactions means you or I could go to jail for simply selling a gun to a neighbor, or giving one to your son or daughter for Christmas. Thompson believes that we have to do “background checks” before any such transaction. Never mind that none of the mass shooters of recent history have acquired their weapons that way.
Breitbart’s AWR Hawkins noted,
The push to ban such sales will be spearheaded by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), who wants to require a background check before a home owner is allowed to buy a gun from his neighbor or an employee buys a gun from a co-worker or employer. He even wants a son to get a background check before a father can give him a gun as a gift.
Mother Jones reports that Thompson met with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Center for American Progress, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, and other gun control groups, to ask them what type of legislation they wanted to the incoming majority to pursue. A bill criminalizing private gun sales was on their wish list.
Will this push backfire?
In the previous administration, the threat of massive gun control created unprecedented gun purchasing and a rise in NRA membership. Will it do the same now?
Pelosi, Schumer, and their ilk in Congress are fully committed to the push to ban weapons, place more background checks, and do whatever it takes to destroy the Second Amendment. Which is one reason we need the Second Amendment.
Background checks have never deterred mass shootings. Many of the mass shooters in recent times actually acquired their guns under the background check system. Banning ordinary people from conducting private gun sales or gifting guns to their progeny is one more step toward destruction of your rights.
