Wikileaks: US Ordered CIA to Spy on 2012 French Election
What was that about “interference” by a foreign government on elections? A classified document leaked via Wikileaks reveals that the CIA spied on and encouraged 4 other government to spy on the 2012 French Presidential elections. Wire-tapping, “cyber-hacking” both of which are causing some issues in international relations.
At the Munich Security Council on Feb 18, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov reminded the US that the CIA/NSA has been actively interfering with elections for a long time. He told the council that not only were some German diplomats wire-tapped, but with this knowledge of the French cyber-hacking, maybe the US shouldn’t be so quick to point fingers at Russia.

In its press release, Wikileaks stated in part,
“All major French political parties were targeted for infiltration by the CIA’s human (“HUMINT”) and electronic (“SIGINT”) spies in the seven months leading up to France’s 2012 presidential election. The revelations are contained within three CIA tasking orders published today by WikiLeaks as context for its forth coming CIA Vault 7 series. Named specifically as targets are the French Socialist Party (PS), the National Front (FN) and Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) together with current President Francois Hollande, then President Nicolas Sarkozy, current round one presidential front runner Marine Le Pen, and former presidential candidates Martine Aubry and Dominique Strauss-Khan…
The CIA espionage orders published today are classified and restricted to U.S. eyes only (“NOFORN”) due to “Friends-on-Friends sensitivities”. The orders state that the collected information is to “support” the activities of the CIA, the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA)’s E.U section, and the U.S. State Department’s Intelligence and Research Branch.
The CIA operation ran for ten months from 21 Nov 2011 to 29 Sep 2012, crossing the April-May 2012 French presidential election and several months into the formation of the new government.”
There is an intelligence sharing group called the “Five Eyes Intelligence Sharing Alliance” composed of the US, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. The information that there was foreign interference in the French elections in 2012 has created quite a stir in Canada.
And since everyone has been up in arms about Russia “interfering in the US elections,” maybe someone should look in the mirror. The 2012 French elections were the only time the US has attempted to interfere- remember the election in Israel in which Obama opposed Netanyahu and sent a taxpayer funded team to defeat him in 2015?
