Update: Jacksonville Shooter Identified as David Katz
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reports that the suspect’s name was David Katz, 24. His motive has been described by news media as being a “disgruntled gamer” who lost the Madden NFL 19 tournament. We previously reported the incident here.
The incident occurred at 1:34 p.m. at the GLHF Gaming Bar inside the Chicago Pizza, according to Blue Lives Matter.
Update: according to news reports, Katz was a member of the anti-Trump “resistance,” and had a history of being “shady” in his gaming.
Katz was from Baltimore, Maryland. He has used the names Bread, mrslicedbread, ravenschamp and ravens2012champ on the gaming circuit. He was a previous Madden champion at a gaming tournament in 2017, but this time he was beaten by two other players. So he walked outside, grabbed a handgun out of his car, went back inside and started shooting. Witnesses said he “targeted” a few people then turned the gun on himself.
Police released the names of the dead as Eli “TrueBoy” Clayton and Taylor “SpotMePlzzz” Robertson. It was reported that “TrueBoy” was on the livestream when the shooting occurred. Initially they reported that there were 4 dead, but it turns out that there were three, including the shooter. Twelve people were injured, two of which transported themselves to the hospital, according to the Sheriff.
“The winner of the Jacksonville tournament was set to win $5,000 and a chance to advance to Las Vegas where the prize pool was over $100,000. Two players defeated Katz during the two-day Jacksonville tournament, which started with pool play on Saturday and continued with a single elimination bracket on Sunday, a gamer told WJAX-TV.”
Of course, the incident meant that every liberal on the planet wants more “gun control” – not that it would have helped. As one person noted, “America doesn’t have a gun problem, it has a heart problem.” This young man felt that violence was the answer to personal disappointment. Is that mental illness or a society that has deliberately taught children they can do whatever they want and get a trophy just for participating? Maybe it’s a little bit of both.
