Trump honors remains of Navy SEAL killed in Yemen
President Trump skated out from under the press today and sneaked off in Marine One in an unannounced trip to welcome home the remains of Navy SEAL William Ryan Owens, who was killed in a raid in Yemen.

President Donald Trump left the White House for an unannounced trip Wednesday afternoon to honor the return of a fallen U.S. Navy SEAL.
According to the White House, President Trump and his daughter Ivanka boarded the Marine One around 3 p.m., and departed from the South Lawn.
The president and first daughter arrived at Delaware’s Dover Air Force Base as the remains of Chief Special Warfare Operator William “Ryan” Owens returned to the United States.
Media panic
The news media was all shook up over the idea that he would leave the press behind. But Donald Trump has very strong views of what should be publicized and what should not.
During the campaign, when he met with Gold Star families privately, he did not allow anyone but one official photographer in the meeting. It was a private meeting in which they talked about personal losses, so he barred the press from attending.
We suspect that dynamic was at play in this case.
But of course, the White House rules say that the President must remain with the press corps in case of breaking news. By now, you’d think the press would understand that Donald Trump does not play by the “rules.”
It happens all the time. Numerous Presidents have sneaked off and left the press scrambling to find out why. Today’s incident was not a golf trip, not a dinner party, it was an honoring of one of our heroes. Owens was the first casualty in combat after Trump was sworn in.
The press didn’t get to take photographs of him meeting the SEAL’s remains or being with the family.
