Times Square Protest- Jews Gather to Send Message: Omar Must Go!

 In Politics

A Times Square protest on May 20, brought hundreds of Jews out to protest Rep Ilhan Omar and to demand that she be removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

The poster for the event on Monday

“In my lifetime I cannot think of any other politician who presents a bigger threat to the alliance between the US and Israel and to America’s Jews. This woman is an ardent antisemite, and she doesn’t even try to hide it.” Joe Diamond, event organizer, to the Jerusalem Post

The Times Square protest was put together by Joe Diamond, the leader of IlhanMustGo.org, with speakers Dov Hikind, a former NY Assemblyman, and Christian Zionism speaker Laurie Cardoza-Moore. Hundreds showed up for the Times Square protest, although Diamond had hoped for thousands.

The message was clear, however, as the crowd chanted “Ilhan must go!” And “Omar must go!” Dov Hikind, the former NY Assemblyman, told Jews who vote Democrat that if they remain quiet of her anti-Semitic remarks, they will be voted out of office, replaced by Republicans.

Omar has spoken for fund raisers of groups tied to terrorists. She has advocated for terrorists charged with terror offenses. She has used anti-Semitic language in many of her statements. Yet Democrats refuse to directly censure her. In her latest one yesterday she accused Americans of being ignorant.

“Ignorance is really pervasive in many parts of this country.” Ilhan Omar. Yes ma’am, especially in Washington DC.

Ben Weinstein noted,

The more narrow reason the Democratic Old Guard is leaning into Tlaib and Omar is that they can be used as faux martyrs to score political points: The more provocative their comments, the bigger the backlash from Republicans and thus the larger the cudgel the left can wield against Republicans for “pouncing” and “seizing” on hapless minority women.

Since the provocateurs are Democrats sitting atop the identity politics hierarchy, any attacker must be evil. While Democrats have screamed “racist” and “bigot” so frequently and in such inapt circumstances as to have depreciated such charges, their backing of Tlaib and Omar enables them to continue virtue-signaling and framing their political opponents as deplorable.

The problem with identity politics and name-calling is that they can easily backfire. Jews are already leaving the Democrat Party (called the Jexit). Do Democrats understand what that will mean? Probably not.
