The Wuhan Coronavirus – Update (Video)

 In Domestic, Foreign, Science

On Thursday, January 30, the World Health Organization declared an international emergency over the Wuhan, China strain of Coronavirus. What the governments are not telling you is that the situation in China is extremely bad – as their government run system panics over their situation. While the declaration of international emergency typically brings more resources to bear, it can also cause governments to react with fear.  As of Friday, the numbers are over 9,600 people infected in China alone, with over 200 dead – and because China likes to hide truth, the numbers could very well be much higher. There are 11,302 cases worldwide…and counting, as the numbers literally change by the minute.

Russia confirmed its first 2 cases, as has Vietnam with 5, and Philippines with 1 as of January 31.

Government panic

Videos have surfaced showing Chinese police literally locking people inside their homes with metal bars. How will they get food? Other videos show people being kidnapped by authorities because they are not wearing a mask. Yet masks are in seriously short supply in China, and their efficacy for this virus is debatable. [The CDC is not recommending Americans to use them at this time. Medical masks are selling at upwards of 80 million PER DAY.]

A man from Spokane, Washington, has family in the middle of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan. His father has already died from pneumonia-like symptoms.  When contacted by KXLY, he refused to go on camera with his story out of fear of reprisal.

“His parents described to him thousands of flooding Wuhan hospitals with waits of up to 6 hours to see a doctor.

They made it to a clinic just before the city shut down all transportation, leaving them no choice but to walk an hour and a half back home, his mother still suffering from pneumonia…

…With a population the size of London, the man believes this is the first time in history his hometown of Wuhan, China, has ever experienced a lockdown.

His fear for the virus and his family is growing, but it’s also his fear of retribution from the Chinese government that kept him from going on camera.”

Always remember: the Chinese government is ruthless. Do they really care about their own citizens? It’s problematical, with videos showing police barring people inside their own homes. Their history of reprisals and vicious responses,  and squelching truth is well known.

“The tendency on the part of China is to suppress any local voices. One of the myths of the Chinese government system is that we have plenty of the supplies that are necessary, but somehow people can’t get hazmat outfits- many of them can’t get the masks at this particular time.” Father Michael Connolly, an associate professor of political science at Gonzaga University.

Fortunately, the United States and Europe are not China. President Duterte of the Philippines has been  looking at a temporary travel ban after their first case of the virus (SCMP).

The US has declared the Wuhan Coronavirus a Public Health emergency. Fox noted:

“As of Feb. 2, U.S. citizens returning from Hubei province will be subject to a 14-day quarantine, while other Americans who traveled elsewhere in China will be instructed to self-monitor for possible symptoms.

Azar also said that President Trump is temporarily suspending entry into the U.S. for foreign nationals who pose a risk of transmitting the virus.”

And the United States is at LOW risk. Think what this would be like if our government launched a full tilt panic like China.

This health bulletin has been circulated in certain places in Washington state (photo courtesy of a Washington state resident):

President Trump is doing what he can to take measures to protect the American people. But if this were a different government, if we were like China, things would be very different.  Never forget this virus- though the US will likely succeed in stopping its spread because of our system, it’s always wise to take precautions yourself.

Though the article has some merit the statements regarding the ruthlessness of the Chinese government are for a narrative that is not altogether true. Saying the Chinese government does not care about its people is also false. China is not the enemy and this is not war, this is a worldwide emergency and instead of throwing stones from the front yard of our glass houses we should be joining forces to combat this emergency.
