The Cry Closet for Students Who Can’t Handle Stress

 In Politics

Salt Lake City- The University of Utah has a cry closet in the Marriott library as a “safe space” for students who are stressed by exams. It was not built by the University, it was built by a student, and no public funds were used in its creation. But seriously, we’re breeding crybabies.  The note on the door tells students that they can use the closet for 10 minutes at a time.

Most of the reactions were predictable, but some were noteworthy.
“Is your school a daycare?”

Some tried to justify the closet by saying it was needed (plush floor and stuffed toys included), other had epic responses.

In one semester I took 24 credit hours and had tests, homework, and major papers in all of them and worked 40 hours a week on top of it. I didn’t have to run to the closet and cry. I just did the work.  Now there might be times when crying is appropriate…like if someone you love dies. Or if you have a wasp in your workspace and you have no bee spray (ok that might be worth a scream or two). But tests? Good grief.
