VOA reported,

Catalonia Interior Minister Joaquim Forn tweeted that at least 13 people were killed and more than 50 injured Thursday when a driver plowed a van into pedestrians on a busy street in Barcelona.

The Spanish publication El Periodico reported gunfire in the area of La Boqueria Market, although it did not cite the source of the information.

Police confirmed in a statement on Twitter there had been fatalities from the “huge collision” in the Las Ramblas tourist district of Barcelona’s city center, but did not specify how many.

Police evacuated the popular tourist area as the suspects allegedly holed up in the bar of the Turkish Restaurant. Police denied anyone was holed up in the bar.

Local authorities stated they found another van connected to the attack in the Spanish town of Vic.

One of the perpetrators of the attack was identified as Driss Ouakabir. He is in custody. There are reportedly two fugitives. One man was shot when he tried to avoid the checkpoint, and injured a police officer. How many total suspects is unclear at this time. We will update as needed.
