The TATA TOP: LET THOSE PUPPIES BREATHE!

 In Domestic

This article is from July of 2014. Don’t know if the craze caught on, but it was an interesting moment.

Original article:

When first notified I would be writing a ‘fashion’ article I was less than thrilled.  Firearms, sure.  Politics, absolutely.  Technology, I’m there.  But fashion?  Not exactly in my ‘headlights’, as they say.  But when I delved a bit deeper, looked ‘under the top’, I realized this is a bigger story for some, and ‘on point’ with things I ‘hold’ close to heart.

The TaTa Top is now available from bikini makers Robyn Graves and Michelle Lytle.  In an effort to foster gender equality, the bikini top is light colored and sports two pink nipples.  The TaTa top is not prank or cheesy gag.   The top is amazingly realistic.  It is sure to cause a stir on the sand this summer.

The TaTa top

From the makers website, TheTaTaTop.com,

“Why can’t girls be topless? If you really think about it, what’s the difference between a man’s nipples and a woman’s? Is it really just the extra breast tissue? Is it the fact that women’s nipples are paired with a vagina?

“Is it the presence of a real and true female nipple bare to the world that is so offensive, that is so horrid that it must be kept covered?

“Who is this law protecting and what are they protecting them from? What message does it send to young women about their bodies? That they should be ashamed and keep them covered?”

#Freethenipplemovement

Promoting gender equality and the bias of gender specific laws, film maker Lina Esco started the #freethenipplemovement.   Making the ‘point’ that  violence in film, video games, even news, is more destructive to society than outdated obscenity and censorship laws, Esco’s independent film ‘Free the Nipple’ will be released soon.  From the film’s website:

Free The Nipple is a film, an equality movement, and a mission to empower women across the world. We stand against female oppression and censorship, both in the United States and around the globe.

In many states, including much to my dismay Florida, women must keep their nipples covered in public spaces.  Including breastfeeding, in 35 states a women can be arrested for going topless.  In New York, which made toplessness legal in 1995, women are still arrested by the NYPD.    The shame of it all!  But now,  with the TaTa Top, women can support gender equality, without breaking the law.  A clear Win-Win for all.

Just in time for summer, women have been wearing the top and posting photos on Instagram.  The top sells for $28.00 and is available in light, medium and dark skin tones.  With each purchase, $5 is donated to the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation to fund breast cancer research.

So ladies, ‘LET THOSE PUPPIES BREATHE!’   I know I’ll be looking, you know, purely research.   I’m counting on it, by 2s of course,  2, 4, 6, 8……

Anyway,  that’s MY story and I’m stickin’ to it!  This feminist thing ain’t all bad.
