Secret Service Agents are now Driving Instructors

 In Politics

Since Malia Obama turned 16 (old enough to learn how to drive) and they couldn’t let her Mom or Dad teach her because, well, letting them out on their own would be not-so-smart, the Secret Service became driving instructors.

Of course, with their track record lately, some agents’ ability to drive is problematical, at least she’s learning something practical.

“Driving for Malia, I think, gives her a sense of normalcy, like the rest of her friends are doing. And my kids have got to learn how to live in the world like normal kids.” Michelle Obama

She forgot how to drive?

The humorous part of this is that Michelle Obama claims that since she hasn’t driven for 7 or 8 years now, she doesn’t remember how. And the Secret Service “wouldn’t let her in the car.” CNN wrote,

It’s a good thing, too, as the First Lady told (Racheal) Ray she hasn’t driven in seven or eight years, and admitted earlier this week she’s forgotten some of the basics.

During a Monday interview on “Live! With Kelly and Michael,” Obama said that when Malia asked her for advice on how to park in a public lot, the First Lady wasn’t sure.

“I barely know now too so I have to check with other sources,” she said.

Secret Service Driving

In fact, the Secret Service has its very own driving classes, so teaching a teenager how to drive should have been a piece of cake.

According to an interview with a retired Secret Service driving instructor in the Baltimore Sun,

Classes include six students with eight instructors.

Training includes day and night driving sessions, training on a skid car to simulate icy or snowy conditions, and includes practice driving through car accidents among other scenarios.

Sheehan said ideal candidates are people with “controlled aggression.”

“If something does happen, most of us can drive, but can you drive under pressure and with control,” he said.

So we hope they taught her normal driving skills.
