Sao Paulo, Brazil – School Shooting Kills 10, Counting Perps

 In Foreign

Sao Paulo, Brazil – On Wednesday, two masked men walked into the Raul Brasil State School building and fatally shot 5 students and 3 staff members. The men then turned the guns on themselves, bringing the total death toll to 10. Several others were wounded. By 3 p.m. at least 8 people were still hospitalized.

The two men shot the owner of a car rental agency and stole a vehicle at 9 a.m. local time. That victim is hospitalized.

Both shooters entered the school at 9:30 a.m. and began shooting – both perpetrators were former students, one aged 17 and one 25. They were identified as Guilherme Tauci Monteiro, 17, and Luiz Henrique de Castro, according to Globo News.

Reuters reported,

Marcelo Salles, commander of police forces in Sao Paulo state, spoke just outside the school and said that in his over three decades of service, he had “never seen anything like this, it was an unspeakably brutal crime.”

Salles said the gunmen used at least one .38 caliber pistol and speed loaders, along with a crossbow and homemade bombs.

Another ten people, mostly schoolchildren, were shot and injured, and several were in serious condition, said police, who lowered their estimates for the number of children killed and those injured late on Wednesday afternoon.

Police arrived eight minutes after the shooting started and did not confront the gunmen, who had already killed themselves, Salles said.

Brazil is one of the most violent nations in the world. Though gun ownership is heavily restricted, it’s relatively easy to obtain one on the black market. One of the shooters used a “.38 with speed loaders” – a revolver. Not exactly an AR-15.

The new President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, tweeted, “I pay my condolences to the relatives of the victims of the inhumane attended today at the school Professor Raul Brasil, in Suzano, São Paulo. A monstrosity and cowardice without size. God Bless the hearts of all!”

Anti-gun activists (like Shannon Watts) quickly attempted to link the shooting today to the US, the NRA, and the new president – because he is pro-US, and wanted to loosen restrictions on firearms.

President Bolsonaro has not yet been able to get loosened gun regulations through their legislature. Never mind the facts, the US anti-gun establishment immediately played politics with the deaths of five students and three staff members. Let’s keep in mind that the motive to this horrific crime is yet unknown. Let’s also keep in mind that these kind of tragedies are perpetrated by sick, messed up individuals.
