Rockford, IL- Deputy Assigned to US Marshal Task Force Shot
A deputy assigned to the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force was shot today during an attempt to serve a warrant at a hotel in Rockford, Illinois. The shooting led to what media described as a “wild high speed chase” down Interstate 55 involving numerous agencies. The suspect is reportedly currently involved in a standoff with police.
Update: The deputy has died, according to Fox.
The suspect, Floyd E Brown, 39, opened fire on members of a US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force as they attempted to serve warrants at an Extended Stay America hotel. The incident occurred at around 9:15 a.m. on Thursday. One deputy who was with the task force was hit, and is said to be in serious/critical condition.

According to ABC, the suspect ran his silver or light-blue Mercury Grand Marquis off the road and into a ditch about 160 miles from Rockford after reaching speeds of over 100 mph. How did he get away with police surrounding the hotel? Reports say he jumped out a three story window and fled the scene. Police said he used a rifle in the shooting.
Following a pursuit with police, suspect Floyd E. Brown is now talking to Illinois State Police from his vehicle on southbound Interstate 55 at MP 133 near Lincoln, Ill.
Police tell WGN they used spike strips to disable Brown’s vehicle. The suspect then lost control and crashed.
At one point, Brown also got into a shooting with police on I-55. It’s unclear, however, if this shooting happened before or after the spikes went down.
I-55 is temporarily shut down in both directions while police negotiate with Brown. Route 66 is also temporarily shut down.
Details are few and far between on the victim. Some reports say the deputy was shot in the head and is fighting for his life, others simply say he’s in “serious” or “critical” condition.
