Reince Priebus – Former RNC Chairman Becomes Navy Ensign

 In Military

Reince Priebus, former RNC Chairman and former Chief of Staff for President Trump, was sworn in by VP Pence on Monday to become an Ensign in the US Naval Reserves, according to Priebus is 47 years old and required a waiver to enlist. He is a “direct commission” officer and for now, will be serving in the Navy Operational Support Center in Washington, D.C.

Sean Spicer, another direct commission officer, now serves as a Navy Comdr, and was a Public Affairs officer during his time as Press Secretary for the Trump administration.

The “direct commission” program is competitive. Out of 40 applicants only 4 were chosen, Priebus among them. Although he has not yet received an assignment, he will likely end up serving in the Human Resource area of the Navy.

“He has yet to receive an official assignment. In the near future he will attend Officer Development School (ODS) in Newport, Rhode Island where where all newly commissioned Navy Reserve Officers receive an introduction to military structure, the history of Navy traditions and customs, the military legal system, military etiquette and more.” Cmdr. Douglas Gabos, Navy Reserve spokesman

Priebus is wearing a National Defense Service medal in the photo – it’s a standard part of the uniform, not a medal that is directly earned.

The comments on Sean Spicer’s post were all by left wing trolls who made fun of the new Navy ensign. Reince Priebus has been the subject of ridicule since his tenure on the Republican National Committee, when people accused him of being weak and wishy-washy. Here are some of the comments on his picture:

“This is a complete waste of a service billet. Commissioning him is a disgrace to the Naval Service. This will bear itself out.”

“What a fucking joke.”

“What an embarrassment.”

Since leaving the Trump administration, he is President and chief strategist for the Michael Best & Friedrich LLP law firm in DC. Being a direct commission, he won’t have to go to boot camp, much to the chagrin of those who commented on his picture.
