Promise Kept – Trump Gains Concessions from EU on Trade

 In Politics

President Trump campaigned on being tougher with trade agreements so that the United States would not be left out of the benefits. The left whined and accused him of hurting our allies and cuddling up to our enemies. Wednesday, the President met with European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker and worked out an agreement with the EU on trade. It staves off that trade war that the left has been screaming about. All it took was a little backbone.

“We met today…to launch a new phase in the relationship between the U.S. & the EU – a phase of close friendship, of strong trade relations in which both of us will win, of working better together for global security & prosperity, & of fighting jointly against terrorism.” President Trump

The delegation agreed to purchase more American soybeans, an industry which took a major hit when China slapped them with tariffs. They also agreed to purchase more natural gas. Tariffs on other European goods are being “reassessed” in further negotiations. The goal? No tariffs, free and open trade benefitting everyone… the President’s “level playing field.”

“For years, the U.S. has been losing hundreds of billions of dollars in trade with the European Union, and we just want it to be a level playing field for our farmers, for our manufacturers, for everybody and we also want a big beneficiary, frankly, to be the European Union and we think it can be good for everybody and that’s why we are here to discuss.” President Trump

Right on, Donald Trump Jr. It appears he knows exactly what he’s doing in spite of all the screaming otherwise.
