Pomona, California Standoff, One Police Officer Dead, One Wounded
When Pomona, California police received a report of a reckless vehicle, they initiated a short pursuit. After the chase, the suspect jumped out of the vehicle and ran inside an apartment and barricaded himself inside. When officers attempted to contact him, he shot through the door, striking two of them. One of the officers has died, the other one is expected to survive. The incident occurred Friday night and continues into Saturday.
UPDATE: After a 15 hour standoff, the suspect, Isaias De Jesus Valencia, was arrested.

The slain officer was identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office as Gregory Casillas, 25. His body was escorted with a procession of several hundred police cars to the coroner’s office.
It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one officer did not survive. The second officer is in stable condition.

The suspect remains barricaded in the apartment as of this writing. Police believe he is still alive, and have been working to get him to leave. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s investigators, Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) Special Weapons Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were called to assist Pomona Police Department with the situation.
