Peace Deal Between Israel and UAE Announced

 In Foreign, Politics

A peace deal between Israel and the UAE was announced on Thursday, a deal which normalizes the relationship between the two countries. The kicker is that they worked the deal out at the request of President Trump after meetings with the administration team. It was sealed in a phone call today with the President, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed, crown prince of Abu Dhabi.

Why is this a big deal? This is the first time since Israel became a nation in 1948 that normalization of relations between the UAE and Israel have come to pass.  Previously only Egypt and Jordan had recognized the nation of Israel. Getting an Arab state to recognize Israel is huge. This is the first peace deal with an Arab state since the 1994 agreement with Jordan, and was negotiated by President Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner, Middle East envoy Avi Berkowitz, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien.

Arutz Sheva reported,

The new agreement will include the establishment of embassies or other formal diplomatic offices in the respective countries.

In addition, a direct flight line will be opened between Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport and Abu Dhabi.

Israeli and UAE delegations are expected to meet in the coming weeks to sign bilateral agreements on investment, tourism, direct flights, security, and telecommunications.

How did this happen? Israel had to make one concession: they would not pursue sovereignty over Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) at this time.  (Read that ‘annexation’). Yet, that was part of the “Deal of the Century” proposed by the Trump Administration for Middle East Peace. Prime Minister Netanyahu stated he hasn’t given up his dream of sovereignty over the region, but he agreed that now is not the time. Both countries pledged to work toward peace in the Middle East.

The Prime Minister was in a meeting on the coronavirus when the phone call came through with the UAE and President Trump. He told his cabinet that they would know why he left soon, but that it was a matter of “national importance.”

The agreement is being dubbed “The Abraham Accords,” after the Patriarch of the Bible.

“No person better symbolizes the potential for unity of these three great faiths.” David Freidman, US ambassador to Israel.

The President mentioned that we may see more of these agreements in the future.  His son-in-law Jared Kushner, stated that focusing on the common interests of the parties is what made the difference.

“The president, like with all things, urged us to take an untraditional approach. You can’t solve problems that have gone unsolved the way people have done before you and failed… the president tries to unite people focusing on common interest as opposed to common grievances…We were able to achieve results others could not achieve. This will advance the region and advance the world.” Jared Kushner.

From Bible prophecy we knew this would happen-just not When! I’m very happy to read this. Congratulations to all parties concerned.
