Parkland School Debacle Continues: Students Arrested for Weapons, Deputy Takes a Nap in Patrol Car

 In Politics

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School – Things just keep piling up around the Parkland shooting. Three students were arrested on Tuesday, two for bringing knives to school, and one for making online threats. And a Broward County deputy on duty at the time that Zachary Cruz managed to evade all the security was found sleeping in his patrol car. He has been suspended.

Moises Carotti was seen sleeping in his patrol vehicle by a student, who quickly notified another deputy on duty at the school. He was reported asleep shortly after 5:00 p.m..  Zachary Cruz was found trespassing on the school campus at 4:30 p.m.. (We previously reported that arrest here.) He was reportedly supposed to cover Building 12, where the shooting took place.

On Tuesday, Gov Rick Scott called for armed guards at every entrance to the school. Hopefully, they’ll be awake armed guards. Sen Marco Rubio was incredulous at the news, and said, “Of all the schools in America, you would think this would be the safest one right now.”

Apparently not, Senator. Two students were arrested after they brought knives onto the school grounds.  And another was arrested for posting an online threat.

The Sun Sentinel reported that two students, Jordan Salter,18, and Gavin Stricker,17, were arrested for having knives. Jordan pulled a two inch knife out of her bra after pouring cereal on a student’s head and claiming the student made “sexually offensive comments.” Gavin was seen on the school bus with a 9 inch knife, and security found the knife in his backpack.

A sophomore who posted a picture of himself online with a gun and made threats is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. He will face a charge of online social media threat.
