Oklahoma National Guard Bus Involved in Fatality Accident
The driver of a pickup died after colliding head-on with a bus carrying 26 Oklahoma National Guard members early Saturday morning. Nine of the soldiers were taken by ambulance, one with severe injuries, the other 8 with minor ones. The 17 remaining soldiers were taken to the hospital by bus to check for injuries.
The crash happened at 5:15 a.m. near Tecumseh, Oklahoma on U.S. Highway 177. The accident is being investigated by Tecumseh Police. Tecumseh Police Chief J.R. Kidney stated that one of the soldiers had severe injuries the others only minor ones, accoridng to KOCO. The cause of the collision is unknown at this time. The name of the deceased has not yet been released.
The soldiers are with the 1245th Transportation Company from Ada, Oklahoma. It is unknown where the bus was headed when the accident occurred. The unit received the coveted 1st Cavalry Division patch in August of 2016, and has received at least one meritorious unit award.
The remaining 17 Soldiers were transported by a bus to the hospital to check for injuries. Tecumseh Police are investigating the incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those effected by this accident. All Soldiers are in stable condition.
