The Cameo nightclub was the former gay bar Adonis, which closed in 2012. Police believe that incident began with an altercation inside the hip-hop club.  The club hires 4 off duty police officers two in the front parking lot and two in the rear. In addition, the club hires specific security personnel for the inside…but something obviously failed.

How several weapons got through security is a question.

Cincinnati.com reported:

• Security at the club would screen patrons before entry, but multiple firearms made it through, police said. Club staff use metal-detecting wands to check customers before they enter the club, police said.

• As of 10:50 a.m., two people from the nightclub were listed in critical condition at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, said spokeswoman Kelly Martin. That update indicated that one patient has taken a turn for the worse. Seven other people were in stable condition.

The article at Cincinnati.com also reported that the ATF was running emergency traces on several firearms recovered at the scene.

Police at first stated there were multiple shooters, then reversed themselves to say only one, then reversed again.

“What we know at this point in the investigation [is that] several local men got into some type of dispute inside the bar and it escalated to shots being fired from several individuals.” police chief Eliot Isaac

The deceased was identified as O’Bryan Raphael Spikes, 27.

According to local news reports, the DJ called for security numerous times, and the shots could be heard over the music.
