New York Group wants to disarm police, create “conflict resolution” groups

 In Domestic

New York City – A group calling itself “Disarm NYPD” is attempting to not just disarm police, but ban them from certain neighborhoods. Their idea calls for “conflict resolution bodies” – and they appear to believe it will delete the need for police entirely.

The group has teamed up with “Copwatch,” anti-police activists who follow police around and film them. Their goal? To run police out of “over-policed neighborhoods” and completely disarm them so they can ‘never kill anyone again.’

“We feel that the police have proven that they’re not responsible enough to carry arms due to the fact that they’ve been killing people so consistently for so many decades. We feel that they should be disarmed immediately.” Disarm NYPD member (anonymous , of course).

Got the idea from the Bronx

In 2011, the Bronx created a similar idea called “Take Back the Bronx.”  A website called “Waging Nonviolence” wrote:

“Take Back The Bronx did this on a smaller scale during many of their no-cop zones by calling for residents to “unite our blocks” and getting people to focus on their common needs and oppression. During one no-cop zone event, they set up a large banner with the text “If all the gangs in the South Bronx unite, we could…” and asked young Bronxites to write in an end to the sentence. It was well-received by local youth who wrote in many responses that would decrease conflicts amongst neighbors, like “demand well-paid jobs,” “have a successful basketball tournament,” and most importantly, “get the police off our necks.” With the help of cop-watchers and locals, Disarm NYPD hopes to replicate these no-cop zones on a larger scale and even maintain them permanently.”

In typical liberal fashion, either these activist groups think everyone is a reasonable person (not) or they WANT anarchy in their streets. It is the increased presence of law enforcement that dropped the crime rate in the Bronx by nearly 71% between 1993 and 2010. The crime rate has reduced much less dramatically since then.

The racial tension in cities like New York has created serious problems both for police and people who just want to live in peace. There SHOULD be “conflict resolution” groups that involve community members. That’s called taking responsibility. But disarming police and running them out of the community is called stupidity.

Hard crime

What about rape, robbery, murder, drug crimes, and theft? How about hostage situations?  These are not “resolved” by a “conflict resolution body.” They often have to be resolved at the point of a gun. Do they plan to stop taking people to jail for their crimes?

Businesses that are insured against theft and robbery/burglary have premiums to pay that are dependent upon the presence of police. No police, ridiculously high premiums. Less jobs for the neighborhoods.

As usual, these liberals haven’t thought their idea through very well.
