New Mexico Governor Pulls National Guard From Border
Saying that she will not allow the New Mexico National Guard to participate in Trump’s “fear-mongering,” New Mexico Governor Democrat Michelle Lujah Grisham has ordered them away from the border. Her predecessor, a Republican, sent them to the border at the President’s request in April of 2018 with the first caravan.
“New Mexico will not take part in the president’s charade of border fear-mongering by misusing our diligent National Guard troops .” Gov Michelle Grisham in a news release.
But…she acknowledged that the citizens of Hidalgo County were concerned because of migrants and “asylum seekers” that keep appearing at their doorstep. So she’s leaving about a dozen National Guard at the border for “humanitarian” assistance.
She also ordered six new NM State police officers deployed to the area to help law enforcement, because officials in Hidalgo County asked for assistance.
She also ordered National Guardsmen from Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Wisconsin to return to their homes states “immediately.”
“At remote stretches of New Mexico’s border with Mexico, large numbers of Central American migrants have surrendered in recent months to U.S. authorities. The perils of the state’s desert borderlands have been highlighted with the deaths of Guatemalan immigrant children Felipe Gomez Alonzo and Jakelin Caal while in U.S. custody in New Mexico.” Military Times
It was reported that she went to the area one day to “see for herself” the situation at the border with Mexico. So she decided to pull the National Guard, deploy the State Police, and still leave a dozen or so NMNG in place in Hidalgo County. What does that say?
Once again, a liberal Democrat thinks she’s got the “moral high ground” in the immigration debate. Ask her if she wants to invite some central American migrants to stay at her home.
