A shooting at around 6:30 a.m. at Naval Air Station Pensacola left four people dead Friday morning, with 7 others injured according to base commander Capt Timothy Kinsella. An active shooter situation was reported to police at around 6:51 a.m. according to Sheriff David Morgan. Two units of Escambia County Sheriff’s office were in the area. The base went into lockdown and remains closed until further notice as the investigation progresses.

At least 11 people were injured, four people of those are confirmed deceased, including the suspect.

The shooter at NAS Pensacola was shot and killed by Escambia County deputies at around 7:45 a.m. according to WEARTV. Two of the initial responding deputies were shot during the confrontation with the suspect – their injuries were listed as non-life threatening.  One of them “neutralized the threat” by shooting the gunman. It reportedly occurred at one of the classroom buildings.

One deputy was shot in the arm and being treated, the other was shot in the knee. That officer is in surgery. They are expected to recover.

During the press conference, Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan was asked if there was any connection to terrorism. While he seemed to be surprised at the question, he stated that they didn’t even “want to speculate” on that at this time. The investigation is being conducted by numerous agencies, FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, NCIS, Escambia County, and others. Suspect information may come from one of those entities.

This is a developing story.
