MSG Mark Allen Dies Ten Years After Being Wounded While Searching for Traitor

 In Military, Veterans

Retired MSG Mark Allen, 46, passed away on October 12 in Georgia. It was ten long years after being shot in the head by a sniper while he was searching for traitor Bowe Bergdahl.

The casualties

Six soldiers from the 48th INF BCT (48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Georgia National Guard) died while searching for the deserter who walked away from his post. Staff Sergeant Clayton Bowen, 29, of San Antonio, Texas; Private 1st Class Morris Walker, 23, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss, 27, of Murray, Utah; 2nd Lieutenant Darryn Andrews, 34, of Dallas, Texas; Staff Sergeant Michael Murphrey, 25, of Snyder, Texas; and Private 1st Class Matthew Martinek, 20, of DeKalb, Ill.

One Navy Seal, James Hatch, was shot in the leg by AK-47 fire as they landed a helicopter during a separate search mission – he survived, but it ended his Navy career.

One Army Corporal, Jonathan Morita, was hit in the hand by a rocket propelled grenade that didn’t explode, but destroyed his hand, leaving only three fingers that bend. (Army Times)

The judge in the Bergdahl trial seemingly took none of those things into account.  Instead, Bergdahl was dishonorably discharged, reduced in rank from sergeant to private and fined $1,000 per month over a 10-month period.

MSG Mark Allen

And then we have MSG Mark Allen. He could have skipped the deployment to Afghanistan because he served in Iraq before.

“He told me that he was coming back to a frontline unit because they were going to be deployed and he didn’t want his guys to go alone.” Family friend Robert Stokely

In July 2009, Allen was struck in the head by a sniper’s round while searching for Bowe Bergdahl. He was left paralyzed and unable to speak from severe brain trauma, confined to a wheelchair for over ten years. (Fox)

His wife, Shannon testified at Bergdahl’s trial that it took 90 minutes every morning to get her husband out of bed, showered, and dressed. She had to use a pulley system to do that much. The day Bergdahl pled guilty, she sat in the courtroom crying.

“We can’t even hold hands anymore unless I pry open his hand and place mine in there. He’s lost me as a wife. Essentially, instead of being his wife, I’m his caregiver.” Shannon Allen

MSgt Allen’s specific cause of death has not been listed at this time. His service will be held in Loganville, Georgia on October 17 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 670 Tom Brewer Road. He is survived by son, Cody, his daughter, Journey,  and wife Shannon, according to his obituary.

Rest in Peace, MSG Allen.

Thanks for the fine article about another exemplary U.S. serviceman and patriot that was willing to give all to protect the freedoms we continue to enjoy in America (freedom that ironically benefits cowards like Bergdahl and others who sympathise with terrorist nation states and sadly even our homegrown socialism-believers/liberals). To Msg Allen’s family, our resounding thanks.
