Gunfire continued to echo through the streets of Mogadishu as police attempted to rescue guests caught in the middle of the fighting.
“Those who died included civilians and hotel guards…We have rescued many people from the back door. No one can enter the building from the front or near the front. There are snipers there.” Police Major Ali Hassan to Reuters
The terrorist group Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.
“We attacked the hotel which was frequented by the apostate government members.” Sheikh Abdiasis Abu Musab to Reuters
The attackers reported took positions behind blast walls and sandbags as they quickly moved into the interior of the hotel. They randomly shot at guests, and have been holding hostages.
Terrorists
Al-Shabaab is just one of numerous Muslim terror organizations around the world. AS operates out of Somalia, and though they supposedly have been removed from many places there, they continue to launch attacks. One previously reported here.
We are well into Ramadan, the so-called “holy month” of Islam. It is also a traditional time for such groups to launch attacks. These terror groups tend to pick the right moment when Muslims are gathering just before or after they break their fast.
