Mississippi Joins Constitutional Carry States

On Tuesday, Breitbart reported that the Mississippi House  concurred with the Senate to vote 85-35 to abolish the need for a Concealed Carry Permit in the state. They will join Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Montana, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming.

Mississippi has abolished the needs for concealed weapon permits.

The Division

Michael Bloomberg’s “Everytown for Gun Safety” spent money and time pushing against the bill, as they have done in the other states…but they lost. There is an inherent division in standing for Constitutional Carry- the division between those who THINK we’re all idiots and can’t be trusted with firearms.

HB 786 does the following, according to the NRA:

  • Expands current permitless carry options to include belt and shoulder holsters.  (Legislation passed in 2015 authorized Mississippians who are eligible to possess a firearm under state and federal law to carry a pistol or revolver without a license in purses, handbags, satchels, other similar bags or briefcases or fully enclosed cases);
  • Allows church authorities to develop security programs that designate enhanced carry permit holders or those with military or law enforcement backgrounds to protect places of worship and receive the benefits of existing protections under the state’s “Castle Doctrine” law; and
  • Prohibits state or local enforcement of federal executive orders or agency regulations not approved by Congress which conflict with the Constitution of the United States or the Mississippi Constitution.

Governor Phil Bryant is expected to sign the bill into law.

The right to keep and bear arms

Does the Islamic terrorism faced by citizens of the United States have anything to do with this wave of permitless carry? Possibly, but it also may have to do with watching our rights be flushed down the drain by the current administration.

Those of us who love this whole permitless carry idea are forever divided from those who hate it. No liberals will ever be convinced of its value or the need of ordinary citizens to “keep and bear arms.”  So we will have to keep an eye on this wave of liberty, to see where it takes us.

“Liberty, when it begins to take root, is a plant of rapid growth.” George Washington 1732-1799
