Milwaukee – More violence Night #2

 In Domestic

Milwaukee, Wisconsin – It was another night of violence in Milwaukee on Sunday into Monday over the police shooting of Sylville Smith, 23, by a black police officer. A 10 p.m. curfew was imposed for Monday.

“There is a curfew that will be more strictly enforced tonight for teenagers. So parents, after 10 o’clock your teenagers better be home or in a place where they’re off the streets.” Mayor Tom Barrett in a news conference.

The National Guard was activated on Sunday, although at that point they had not been utilized.

CNN reported,

“More chaos took place during a protest early Monday in northern Milwaukee when bullets and other objects flew. Shots rang out in three locations, and an 18-year-old man who was struck in the neck has been hospitalized, Milwaukee police said.”

“When they see the wrong role model, this is what you get…” Pat Smith

Pat Smith, the father of Sylville, stated to Fox6 that he feels the shooting was probably justified, and blamed himself for how Sylville turned out.

“…You young kids falling into their world, what they want you to do. Everything you do is programmed. I had to blame myself for a lot of things too because your hero is your dad and I played a very big part in my family’s role model for them. Being on the street, doing things of the street life: Entertaining, drug dealing and pimping and they’re looking at their dad like ‘he’s doing all these things.’ I got out of jail two months ago, but I’ve been going back and forth in jail and they see those things so I’d like to apologize to my kids because this is the role model they look up to. When they see the wrong role model, this is what you get…”

Sylville had a lengthy criminal record and had been involved in a shooting before. The charges in that shooting were dismissed. Facebook photos of Smith holding various weapons were making the rounds on Monday.

Police stated that there were 23 rounds left in Smith’s weapon- which was a stolen gun, by the way- and that the body camera footage clearly showed that he had the gun in his hand when he was shot. The original owner of the gun stated that 500 rounds of ammo were taken in the burglary.

“The goal is to make the city safe and not to win a fight.” Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn

More businesses were damaged, more cars torched, and more calls for calm came out. The problem is, there are outsiders calling for violence in these “protests” who are no involved at all in the communities. And people fall for it. As Mr. Smith said above, they are “programming” the people to do what they want them to do.
