Marine Veteran, Warrior, Oliver North Set to Become NRA President
The NRA has selected a familiar name for its next president: Oliver North. Pete Brownell did not seek a second term as president of the National Rifle Association board, citing a need to spend time with his family. THE NRA board stated that Brownell had served with distinction, and “enthusiastically” agreed with the selection of North.
Oliver North spent 22 years as a US Marine, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel. He has numerous medals and awards, including a silver star, a bronze star with V, and purple heart, in addition to many others. He was on the National Security staff during President Reagan. He’s no stranger to controversy (as in the Iran-Contra scandal), which means he should be able to handle the current level of hate that is being spewed toward the NRA with one hand tied behind his back.
“I am honored to have been selected by the NRA Board to soon serve as this great organization’s President. I appreciate the board initiating a process that affords me a few weeks to set my affairs in order, and I am eager to hit the ground running as the new NRA President.” Oliver North
The charges for which he was convicted stemmed from the Iran-Contra scandal. All were vacated, reversed and dismissed in 1991, after the appeals court saw that the prosecution had used his own testimony to convict him after he had been granted immunity.
From 2001- 2016, North hosted “War Stories with Oliver North” on Fox News. Since then he has been a Fox News Contributor. He resigned his position there in order to take the presidency of the NRA.
“The board acted quickly and with great vision. Oliver North is, hands down, the absolute best choice to lead our NRA Board, to fully engage with our members, and to unflinchingly stand and fight for the great freedoms he has defended his entire life…Oliver North is a true hero and warrior for freedom and NRA members are proud to stand with him.” Wayne LaPierre
Thrilled about the Oliver North news. A total warrior for freedom, this is the last person that anti-gun advocates would want as the new President of the NRA board.
