Looky Looky, Bloomberg Promotes ‘Gun Safety’ – New Name, Same Goal
Following Jonathon Gruber’s play book, longtime anti-gun advocate billionaire Michael Bloomberg is betting on the ‘stupidity of the American public.’
Michael Bloomberg has been the funding behind ‘Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ and ‘Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America’, neither of which have been successful in fostering their gun control agenda.
Seeking to re-brand his efforts into a more palatable campaign, Bloomberg is consolidating his anti-gun efforts into the ‘Everytown for Gun Safety’ campaign. In 2014, Bloomberg pledged 50 million dollars to his ‘Gun Safety’ campaign.
National Rifle Association
The NRA has a 140 year history of advocating for gun safety and instructional programs. While the NRA welcomes any effort to improve awareness of proper gun use and safe practices, there is reason to be suspicious of Bloomberg strict gun control agenda.
In a prepared statement the NRA responded,
…the NRA welcomes Bloomberg to the party – but, we know his real agenda is gun control and his new found interest in gun safety is simply a cover and convenient way for him to mask his real agenda — gun control.
The NRA believes that one accident is one too many, which is why we do more than any other organization in the world to promote the safe and responsible use of firearms. The NRA teaches people how to prevent accidents from happening and has been successful in saving lives while, Moms Demand Action and other anti-gun groups funded by billionaire Michael Bloomberg exploit tragedies and use gun safety as nothing more than a talking point to further a political agenda that infringes on law-abiding citizens’ right to self-protection.
Betting on ‘American Stupidity’
Former New York Mayor Bloomberg thinks a different approach is needed. Saying gun control advocates need to learn from the N.R.A. and punish those politicians who fail to support their agenda. Including Democrats whose positions do not support Bloomberg’s anti-gun control agenda. Referring to the NRA, Bloomberg said,
“They say, ‘We don’t care. We’re going to go after you,’ ‘If you don’t vote with us we’re going to go after your kids and your grandkids and your great-grandkids. And we’re never going to stop.’ ”
“We’ve got to make them afraid of us.”
Betting the American public will embrace his ‘Gun Safety’ program, without recognizing the real anti-gun agenda, Bloomberg hopes to sway the public. His new strategy will focus not on federal restrictions to ban certain weapons, the dreaded so called assault rifle, but instead will seek to expand the background check system for gun buyers both at the state and national levels.
Put your money where your mouth is……
The NRA has uncovered evidence that points Bloomberg out as ‘all talk and no action.’
According to ‘Everytown For Gun Safety’ 2013 tax filings, the organization spent over $36 million in anti-gun pursuits, but only $20,000 was spent specifically on gun safety. That’s 0.06% spent on gun safety. Hardly an indication of true interest in fostering gun safety. The single grant was provided to a faith-based group in the District of Columbia.
Note to Gruber and Bloomberg – Americans Aren’t Stupid
In comparison, the National Rifle Association has been teaching gun safety for 140 years, with over 110,000 instructors in all 50 states who teach firearms use and safety to nearly a million Americans each year.
That’s how you advocate for gun safety.
