Lithia, FL – Two Men Break Into Home. Woman Shoots One Dead.

 In Domestic

Lithia, FL – On October 30, a couple was at home when two men forced their way inside. The men began to pistol whip the male homeowner. The woman grabbed her gun and shot one, the other escaped. Police found the first man dead in a nearby ditch.

Update: The woman who shot the bad guy was 8 months pregnant, and used an AR-15 to “even the playing field.” Good job!

The incident occurred around 9 p.m.. Police responded to a call of a home invasion in Hillsborough County, a report called in by neighbors of the couple.  The suspect attacked the male homeowner, beating him and pistol whipping him, making “demands” of him. The nature of those demands was not released by Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

“During that incident, the female homeowner retrieved a firearm which was in the house legally and fired one round which struck the male victim.” Maj Frank Losat Fox 13

The woman was able to grab her legally owned firearm and fire one round, hitting the target. When police arrived, they found one suspect dead in a nearby ditch. The other suspect fled in a vehicle.

“I would encourage if any of the neighbors see any suspicious vehicles or anybody walking around the neighborhood that they do not recognize to please call 911. Do not approach this person as they might be armed if any vehicles are sitting in your driveway that does not look familiar please call us.”  Major Frank Losat, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (Spectrum News)

Police believe the couple was specifically targeted, and that the incident was not random, more than likely because of the demands that were made. The male homeowner was taken to a local hospital, where he remained in stable condition after the incident.

Police used a K9 unit and an aviation unit in an attempt to track the second suspect. As of Thursday, he had not yet been located. They are encouraging all neighbors to remain watchful and call 911 for anyone suspicious. Anyone with information is asked to call Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 813-247-8200
