Kansas Shooter Got His Guns From His Ex-Girlfriend

The man who shot up Excel Industries this week  got his guns from a straw purchase by his ex-girlfriend, who full well knew what she was doing. Sarah T. Hopkins, 28, the mother of the shooter’s 4 year old daughter, was charged with knowingly transferring a firearm to a convicted felon.

Straw Purchase

Fox4 out of Kansas City reported,

An affidavit says the Newton woman gave Cedric Ford two guns: a Zastava Serbia, which is an AK-47-type semi-automatic rifle, and a Glock Model 22 40-caliber handgun.

Prosecutors say Hopkins knew Ford wasn’t allowed to have a firearm because he was a convicted felon.

Police fatally shot Ford during the shooting at Excel Industries in nearby Hesston on Thursday.

Hopkins is set to appear in court on Monday.

Straw Purchases

Straw purchases are already illegal in the United States, not that being illegal ever stops a criminal. They are one of the most common ways bad guys like Ford get their guns. But the penalties for such purchases are nowhere near the penalties for the crimes committed by the criminals who receive them.

Maybe if they were, these idiots who give guns to convicted felons would have to cool their heels in prison for the same amount of time as the crime committed with the weapon they purchased.

When someone robs a store and someone dies, anyone with them at the time is charged  for that death as well. the same should be an option for straw purchasers.

It this last case, the Murder of 3, the death of one, and Aggravated Assault for the rest… what do you think?

Although people who commit crimes have a totally different outlook than ordinary people- they don’t believe they’ll ever get caught. The elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top.
