JTTF Arrests Hasher Taheb for Plotting White House Attack

 In Domestic

The JTTF (Joint Terrorism Task Force) arrested Hasher Taheb, 21, on Wednesday after year long investigation revealed a plot to blow up several locations, including the White House. Taheb lived in Cumming, Georgia. Based on a tip from the community that he had become radicalized, the JTTF began an investigation. His alleged plan was to execute the attack on Jan 17. He also allegedly said he wanted to be a “martyr,” and cause as much damage as possible.

The New York Post reported,

At some point, Taheb allegedly told the agent he was selling the car to fund a “hijra” — or trip to ISIS territory — and that he was interested in attacking the White House and other monuments. But he did not know how, and had no weapons or explosives to do so.

According to his arrest affidavit, Taheb obtained a “hand-drawn diagram of ground floor of the West Wing,” which he showed to the undercover operative. …

…Taheb agreed to meet up with the agent — in hopes of obtaining an improvised explosive device and anti-tank rocket — and was arrested in Gwinnett County, the affidavit says.”

His plan was to fill a backpack with explosives and create a distraction for police, then launch an attack. The White House, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and an unnamed synagogue were some of his potential targets, according to the Washington Times

The JTTF arrested him on Wednesday after he took possession of three semi-automatic rifles, three explosive devices with remote initiation and one AT-4 (anti-tank rocket launcher). It is likely that these items were non-functioning at the time.

The US Attorney’s office for the Northern District of Georgia reported,

“Investigating and prosecuting individuals who seek to cause mass casualties is law enforcement’s top priority. Today, the Joint Terrorism Task Force partners, led by the FBI, arrested Hasher Taheb, 21, of Cumming, Georgia after a thorough investigation into his plans to attack federal buildings.  As articulated in the affidavit supporting the complaint, his alleged intent was to attack the White House and other targets of opportunity in the Washington DC area.   Mr. Taheb has been charged with violating Title 18USC 844(f)(1) — attempt to damage by means of an explosive any building owned, possessed, or leased by the United States or any department or agency thereof, or any institution or organization receiving federal financial assistance.  The JTTF initiated the case after receiving a tip from the community.  Because the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, and numerous Federal, state and LE partners are active participants in the JTTF, all potential threats have been neutralized and under control from the inception of this case.  Again, I want to clarify that there were no threats posed to any targets located in Northern District of Georgia, nor was the upcoming Super Bowl a target of his alleged activity.” US Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak
