It’s the 243rd Birthday of the US Navy!

On October 13, 1775, the Second Continental Congress authorized creating the Continental Navy. That makes today the 243rd Birthday of the US Navy!

As with most military branches, the Continental Congress disbanded the Navy right after the Revolutionary War. But they soon found that it was a mistake, that peace was temporary. And by 1794, they made the Navy a permanent branch of the US Military.

From the dangers of the Barbary Pirates, through WWII to modern day high tech battlefields, the United States Navy has always “owned the seas.” It has also been a fight to keep ships up to date, even back during the Civil War when designs were outdated and clumsy. But just like our Military in all branches, America will prevail.
