Is Hamza bin Laden Dead? US Intel Says Yes
Hamza bin Laden was widely believed to be the heir to Al-Qaeda after his father was killed in a SEAL raid in 2011. But US Intel now says that Hamza is likely dead, and although the US may have had a hand in that death, no one is talking. Not even the President. He may have been killed within the last two year, but US officials only recently received information confirming his death.
Items found in Osama bin Laden’s Pakistan lair led US intelligence to believe that Osama was grooming his son to take over his position.
In 2015, a tape released by Al-Qaeda purporting to be Hamza called for more attacks on the US. US officials felt that the son was becoming a serious threat.
In a September 2017 article, counterterror expert and former FBI agent Ali Soufan said, “Hamza is being prepared for a leadership role in the organization his father founded” and is “likely to be perceived favorably by the jihadi rank-and-file. With the Islamic State’s ‘caliphate’ apparently on the verge of collapse, Hamza is now the figure best placed to reunify the global jihadi movement.”
The department’s Rewards for Justice Program described the younger bin Laden on Twitter as “an emerging al Qaeda leader” who “has threatened attacks against the United States and allies.”NBC
But is he dead for certain? We went through the ‘he’s dead’, ‘no he’s not’ runaround with Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi too.
When a reporter asked President Trump to comment on the story Wednesday, the President said, “I don’t want to comment on it. I don’t want to comment on that. Thank you very much, everybody.”
Though Hamza is/was not the leader of Al-Qaeda, he began to rise in prominence among them. He married the daughter of a prominent A-Qaeda leader. His Saudi citizenship was revoked earlier this year.
