Iranian-Backed Shi’ite Militia Attack US Embassy in Baghdad
On Tuesday, Iranian-backed Shi’ite militiamen attacked the US Embassy in Baghdad. Though they were unable to breach the main building, they did enter the compound and set fires. President Trump flatly demanded that Iraq protect US personnel, and remarked: “There will be no Benghazis.” One hundred 100 more US Marines were sent to Baghdad to increase security.
Note here: this didn’t take 29 cables begging for security help. It was immediate. Just sayin’. When Trump said there will be no Benghazis, he wasn’t joking around.
“We have taken appropriate force protection actions to ensure the safety of American citizens, military personnel and diplomats in country, and to ensure our right of self-defense. We are sending additional forces to support our personnel at the Embassy.” SecDef Mark Esper

Those who attacked the US Embassy are NOT the same ‘Iraqi protesters’ who have been in the news since October. Those groups were calling for the Iranian influence to be removed.
Most left wing news media like AP and NYT called the attackers “Iraqi mourners,” which they were not. The “justification” for this attack was that US airstrikes that took out numerous Iranian militia in both Iraq and Syria. Some of the attackers scrawled “Qassem Soleimani is our leader” on the US embassy wall. Soleimani built the Iranian militias and is the leader of Iran’s Qods Force.
The US airstrikes came after a rocket attack killed a US contractor and wounded 4 US troops.
“Military jet fighters conducted “precision defensive strikes” on five sites of Kataeb Hezbollah, an Iran-backed Iraqi militia, Jonathan Hoffman, a spokesperson for the Pentagon told Fox News. Two defense officials added that Air Force F-15 jet fighters carried out the strikes…U.S. officials have blamed the militia for a rocket barrage Friday that killed a U.S. defense contractor, wounded four U.S. troops and two members of the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) near Kirkuk, in northern Iraq.” (Fox)
Iraq has long been trying to balance the influence of Iran with the presence of the US in their country. That foolish type of “political correctness” may cost them in the long run. Especially when an Iranian-backed Shi’ite militia attacks the US Embassy.
