Iran Threatens to Close Strait of Hormuz…again

Iran is not happy with Congressman Randy Forbes, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Seapower. He introduced a resolution to the House on April 28 that stated Iran violated International law by taking our Sailors captive. He also called on fellow Armed Services members to read a classified briefing regarding the incident. In response, Iran threatened to shut down the Strait of Hormuz.

A  lack of strong leadership

The resolution asks Congress to rethink sanctions against the Iranians. It is states that  the Detention of American sailors must have consequences. Read the text of the bill here H.Res 709 IH.

“Iran violated international law in its illegal detention of American sailors. Rather than rallying the world against the humiliation of U.S. personnel, the U.S. Secretary of State thanked the Iranians for releasing sailors they had unlawfully seized. In the face of this Administration’s failure to respond seriously to an overt act of aggression, which has led only to more misbehavior and threats to close the Gulf, Congress must act. My resolution demands this Administration make U.S. national security interests — not the President’s quest to build a legacy on the back of an ill-conceived nuclear deal – our top priority.” Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va

So, of course, Iran responded. On Wednesday, Military Times reported that they filed a formal complaint with the Swiss Embassy in Tehran against Forbe’s resolution.

“They come here from the other side of the globe and stage war games. What are you doing here? Go back to the Bay of Pigs. Go and hold exercises there. What are you doing in the Persian Gulf? The Persian Gulf is our home.” Ayatollah Khamenei

“Americans should learn from historical truths…If the Americans and their regional allies want to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and threaten us, we will not allow any entry…Americans cannot make safe any part of the world.” Gen. Hossein Salami, deputy commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard

To put this all into perspective, the Strait of Hormuz is the transit point for nearly 1/3 of the world’s oil exports. Our ships encounter them on a daily basis in the region. They’ve launched rockets near our ships, placing our men and women in harm’s way.

And here we are, with the administration giving them more money, kissing up to them, and apologizing at every turn.
