 In Domestic

In a span of just 12 hours, two police officers killed, and one shot in three separate incidents remind us of the war on cops. One Maryland police officer, Marine Veteran Cpl Mujahid Ramzziddin; Officer Justin Billa was killed in Mobile Alabama; and an officer in Montgomery, Alabama was shot and received non-life-threatening injuries on Wednesday.

Prince George County, Brandywine, Maryland

Cpl. Mujahid Ramzziddin, a Marine Corps veteran and officer in the Prince George Police Department, was off duty when heย  encountered a woman who asked him for help. He stood his ground to defend her life from a man who was threatening to kill her, and the suspect fatally shot him.

The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police. He fired his weapon from the car before police were able to stop him after a brief chase.

Cpl Ramzziddin was already a Medal of Valor recipient at the police agency. He was the father of four. He died doing his job.

Mobile, Alabama

Officer Justin Billa was responding to the murder ofย Fonda Poellnitz, a woman whose body was found on Tuesday evening. The officer was shot as he approached the suspect’s house. The suspect was found dead in his home after a stand off with police.

Billa leaves behind a wife and a one year old child.

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson issued this statement on Wednesday:

“Today we mourn the loss of Officer Justin Billa who was killed last night while responding to a call for service. Officer Billa had been with the Mobile Police Department since 2016 and served our citizens with honor and distinction during that time. Officer Billaโ€™s death affects more than just the Mobile Police Department. The death of a first responder in the line of duty is a loss that affects the entire city. This morning we grieve for the family and friends of Officer Billa who have lost a father, a son, a husband and a trusted colleague. I offer my prayers in addition to the full support of the city as we deal with this tragedy.”

Montgomery, Alabama

Police responded to a call of a shooting in Montgomery. When they arrived, they encountered an armed suspect who was fleeing from the scene. The suspect was fatally wounded, and a police officer wounded, but the injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to WSFA.
