Ilhan Omar – Made America the Bad Guy by Claiming Troops in “Black Hawk Down” Killed “Thousands of Somalis”
If Ilhan Omar doesn’t want to be the victim of “Islamophobia” perhaps she should pay attention to her hatred of America … and our troops. When a journalist found a tweet from 2017 that she put out for all to see, that incorrectly claimed “thousands of Somalis” were killed during the Black Hawk down incident, the reaction was fierce, even from other Muslims.
Is the media going to ask every Democrat if they agree with Ilhan Omar that American troops are killers?!? https://t.co/oTknkE0Uf0— Donald Trump Jr. (@DonaldJTrumpJr) April 22, 2019
“I’m particularly offended as an American and as a Muslim that nobody holds her accountable for these radical views that really view our soldiers as the problem rather than the solution,” said Navy physician and @AIFDemocracy president Zuhdi Jasser https://t.co/CsGO0NCAgA— M. "Rep. @IlhanMN Made U.S. Villain in 'Black Hawk Down'"— Larry Elder (@larryelder) April 23, 2019
Recall, U.S. troops were in Somalia as part of a U.N. humanitarian mission that is estimated to have prevented 250,000 civil war torn Somalis from starving. Yet Omar thinks AMERICA was the bad guy?!?https://t.co/DqXFCDoFMv
What more evidence is needed to figure out Rep. @IlhanMN Omar sees herself as Somali, not American. And a Somali loyal to the warlord Aideed who slaughtered 26 Pakistani peacekeepers, gouging out their eyes. O who have you elected you guilt-ridden White liberals of Minnesota. https://t.co/IQnfO0wpLH— Tarek Fatah (@TarekFatah) April 23, 2019
Two US service members received Medals of Honor for their actions in saving a Black Hawk pilot during the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. They knew they would die at the hands of a murderous Somali mob, but volunteered to save him anyway. Hundreds of others received purple hearts, silver stars, bronze stars were given for heroic actions. Omar treated their heroism as nothing.
1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D) was deployed to Mogadishu to capture the leader of a clan that was starving the Somali people to death. They were led by Mohamed Farrah Aidid, the target of the mission by Delta Forces.
“Altogether, the 18-hour urban firefight, later known as the Battle of Mogadishu, left 18 Americans and hundreds of Somalis dead. News outlets broadcast searing images of jubilant mobs dragging the bodies of dead Army special operators and helicopter crewmen through the streets of Mogadishu…” The Smithsonian
“The forces of chaos, of Islamist extremism, are powerful and have decades of inertia behind them in criminality, the warlords and cartels.” Stephen Schwartz, former ambassador to Somalia
An article in the Federalist by Kyle Lamb gives the perspective on a more personal level:
The simple truth is that Omar enjoys the fruits of American combat deaths, yet she can’t even bring herself to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifice that was made on her behalf, either as a Somali or an American. Her clan didn’t stand a chance against Aidid and Habar Gidirs, so I don’t blame her for leaving. But I do blame her for attacking those of us who had zero personal interest or investment in her nation for doing our jobs on behalf of our country. And I blame her for smearing American servicemen because we answered the call of our nation to address the violent barbarism of hers.
Unlike Omar, I’m not a politician. I don’t have power or influence. I don’t have a vote in Congress or the ability to direct America’s foreign policy. I’m just one of the men who strapped it on as a member of Task Force Ranger and went into harm’s way to help bring peace and security to her and her people. And let me tell you, she missed a helluva fight.
For those who fought in the Battle of Mogadishu, known as Black Hawk Down, for those who were left alone against mobs of attacking Somalis, and for those who earned medals of heroism, Ilhan Omar owes something more than a mere apology. Not even for a split second does she love her adopted nation, even though it has given her endless opportunities. She doesn’t care at all that US troops saved at least 250,000 of her own countrymen from starvation. She needs to step down.
