High School Football Team in Ridgecrest, California – Patriotism on Display

 In Domestic

Ridgecrest, California is a military town about 100 miles east of Bakersfield. And their patriotism is most definitely not in question. Football players at Sherman E. Burroughs High School came on the field with American flags to the song “God Bless the USA,” stood for the National Anthem, and two F-18s from a nearby base flew over the stadium. All to the cheers and excitement of the crowd. Maybe the NFL should take a peek and learn something.

God Bless the USA

Country Singer Lee Greenwood’s signature song is “God Bless the USA.” As the high school football players came onto the field on Friday night at Homecoming, that song was playing in the background. Every player held an American flag and lined up on the field in front of the goalposts. The words to his song are:

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife
I’d thank my lucky stars to be livin’ here today
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away

And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA
Well, there’s pride in every American heart
And it’s time we stand and say that

[2x]
I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

As the band played the Star Spangled Banner, every player, and members of the audience stood with their hands over their hearts. There was no kneeling, no raised fists, no disrespect shown.

As the National Anthem finished, with everyone in the crowd standing (and all the players), two F-18 jets flew overhead. One person can be heard exclaiming “Oh my God it’s wonderful to live in a military town.” They were delighted…unlike the obnoxious NFL players who complain that the US is “racist.” The video at this point has over 4 million views.

It is a huge blessing to see a small town show respect to the flag, the military – the men who died for the opportunities we have in this nation.

Consequences of allowing complainers to run an organization: they run it into the ground.

The NFL has drastically lost viewers, and ticket sales have plunged.
