Hawaii Cop Killer Fatally Shot After Shooting Another Officer

 In Domestic

Kau, Hawaii  – Hawaii Cop Killer Justin Waiki was fatally shot in a confrontation with police, according to the Honolulu Star Advertiser. He shot another officer “repeatedly,”during the final shootout. Waiki didn’t survive the gun battle with police. The officer is in stable condition.

Waiki was wanted in connection with the death of Hawaii County officer Bronson Kaliloa who was shot on Tuesday after being hit in the leg and neck, as we previously reported. An intense manhunt ensued which ended on Friday.

Officers had set up a checkpoint on the Big Island of Hawaii near the place known as “South Point” in an effort to locate Waiki, after receiving a tip that he was in the area.

Officers stopped an SUV that had 5 people inside at around 2:45 p.m. at the checkpoint, according to Hawaii News Now. Three women, a male driver, and Waiki were in the vehicle. Waiki was hiding under a blanket in the rear of the Toyota 4Runner.

When the officer lifted the back of the SUV, Waiki came out shooting, striking the SRT (Special Response Team ) Sergeant. Police            immediately returned fire, neutralizing Waiki permanently.

The SRT Sergeant was taken to Hilo Medical Center and is listed in stable condition. He is a 12 year veteran of the force.

A female in the SUV was also hit in the exchange of gunfire, and was taken to Hilo for treatment.

The three remaining persons were arrested for hindering prosecution and taken to the police department in Kona.

Thursday’s chase

Police had suspected that Waiki was getting help to evade police. They even realized they were possibly getting “bogus tips” meant to steer them in the wrong direction. When two people began shooting at police near Honaunau during a wild police chase on Thursday night, they realized it was true: Waiki was definitely getting help. But the suspect’s two friends escaped. Until Friday.
