Happy Birthday, US Army and President Trump on June 14, Flag Day!

 In Military, Politics

On June 14,  Thursday, the United States Army turned 243. It also happens to be the birthday of President Donald Trump (72 years), AND the Stars and Stripes (241 years).  The US Army was born in 1775, the Star and Stripes was recognized as the national flag in 1777.  Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Mr. President!

An entry in the journal of the Continental Congress under item #5 read:

“Resolved that the flag of the thirteen United States be Thirteen stripes alternate red and white: that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

The official Flag Day as June 14 was signed into law by President Truman in 1949.

But the US Army is the oldest of the service branches. Ten companies of expert riflemen were authorized to serve the colonies for one year. It wasn’t until June 3, 1784 that the First American Regiment (the 3rd infantry regiment) was created. From there the interior sections came into being, from the Army Corps of Engineers, to Military Intelligence,  the US Army took shape from June 14, 1775.
