Gwinnett County Officer Murdered: One Arrested, One at Large
Snellville, Georgia – Gwinnett County officer Antwan Toney, 30, was murdered on Saturday afternoon after responding to the call of a suspicious vehicle behind Shiloh middle school in Snellville. The reporting party thought that the occupants might be smoking marijuana.
Update: Tafahree Maynard was shot and killed by police on Monday, after investigating a tip that he was seen in the Snellville area. He was found to be holding a lawnmower blade behind his back after tasers were deployed according to Fox.
Two police officers arrived at around 3 p.m. and approached the vehicle without their guns drawn. One of the occupants suddenly opened fire, shooting through the window glass and striking officer Toney according to Blue Lives Matter.
Toney’s partner dragged him away as the vehicle fled the scene. He was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The vehicle crashed a mile away from the scene and both suspects ran away on foot. One male, Isaiah Pretlow, was arrested by US Marshals. He pointed a gun at them and they returned fire. It is unclear if he was struck during the exchange of gunfire. The details of how they found him have not been released. He is in custody.
Tafahree Maynard is still at large, and is believed to be the shooter of Officer Toney. Maynard is considered armed and dangerous.

Officer Antwan Toney was killed just 6 days before his third year anniversary with the Gwinnett County Police. GCPD was his first job as a police officer – prior to that he worked as a security guard. His family reportedly lives in California. He was not married.
