Guess who came to jury duty? (Video)
Love him or hate him, he’s personable, friendly, and civic-minded – former President George W. Bush showed up for jury duty in Dallas, Texas Wednesday morning. He was juror number 27 out of a panel of 35.
If someone sent a jury summons to our current President, would he go? Not on your life. He’d write an Executive Order against it. He’d send the EPA to investigate violations of air quality standards inside the Courthouse. The DOJ would have to investigate the person who sent the summons. They’d tear the courthouse apart.
“I Never Broke the law, I AM the law.” Judge Dredd in the movie
You can hear it, can’t you? Obama thinks he’s …well, never mind. Back to current events.
Friendly
President Bush, is a bit more laid back about things like that. Summonsed to the George L Allen Sr. Courts Building in Dallas, the former President showed up dressed like everyone else, and treated everyone the same.
“He was very personable, very friendly, just ‘hey I’m here to serve,’ he asked questions and was very nice. I loved it.” Juror Sheri Coleman
Dallas Morning News reported that the Secret Service was stationed outside Judge Eric Moye’s Courtroom during the 3 hours that President Bush was inside. A few of the jurors were able to have their photos taken with the former President. They all seemed thrilled.
Refreshing
Judge Moye addressed the potential jurors before the process took place:
“All of you have some reason why you have to do something else. But … you have the former president who has given his time to be here, so think how good your excuses for getting out of here really are.”
The President did not get picked for the civil trial, as he was number 27 and they only got as far as 23. While most of us hate jury duty, we show up when we have to because it’s part of our duty as citizens.
It’s nice to know that at least one President is service minded enough to make an appearance. He doesn’t view the American people with contempt, unlike a certain other President we already mentioned.
