Governors Tell Obama to Stuff His Refugees
Update: According to Breitbart, the list of governors now opposed to Obama’s resettlement of refugees has grown to 22: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, New Jersey, Kansas and Wisconsin. Governor-elect for Kentucky Matt Bevin is also opposed to it, and will take office in January. Democratic governor of New Hampshire Maggie Hassan says she is also opposed.
These are varying degrees of opposition, but the bottom line is states are rising up against Obama’s refugee plan in a big way.
Arkansas, Michigan, Mississippi, Alabama, Texas are among the growing list of states that are refusing or at least asking for a hold to be placed on Syrian Refugees. There are 15 states thus far who are standing up to suspend or restrict Syrian settlement: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and Wisconsin.
But in spite of that, Obama is not budging on his plan to add thousands of Syrian refugees to the America. It promises to be an epic showdown.
House Homeland Security Commission Chairman, Michael McCaul called on Obama to place the refugee plan on hold in light of the Paris Attacks. But Obama just thinks the Paris Attacks were a “setback.”
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant
“I’m currently working with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety and Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to determine the current status of any Syrian refugees that may be brought to our state in the near future. I will do everything humanly possible to stop any plans from the Obama administration to put Syrian refugees in Mississippi. The policy of bringing these individuals into the country is not only misguided, it is extremely dangerous. I’ll be notifying President Obama of my decision today to resist this potential action.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott
“Given the tragic attacks in Paris and the threats we have already seen, Texas cannot participate in any program that will result in Syrian refugees – any one of whom could be connected to terrorism – being resettled in Texas,” Governor Abbott said in the letter. “Effective today, I am directing the Texas Health & Human Services Commission’s Refugee Resettlement Program to not participate in the resettlement of any Syrian refugees in the State of Texas. And I urge you, as President, to halt your plans to allow Syrians to be resettled anywhere in the United States…
Neither you nor any federal official can guarantee that Syrian refugees will not be part of any terroristic activity. As such, opening our door to them irresponsibly exposes our fellow Americans to unacceptable peril.”
Alabama Governor Robert Bentley
“After full consideration of this weekend’s attacks of terror on innocent citizens in Paris, I will oppose any attempt to relocate Syrian refugees to Alabama through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. As your Governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way…”
Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson
“As governor, I oppose any facility or installation in Arkansas being used as a Syrian refugee center. Many of the Syrian refugees are fleeing violence in their own country but Europe, Asia or Africa are logically the best places for resettlement or for temporary asylum. Syria is a war torn country and the United States will support our European friends in fighting ISIL in Syria and elsewhere; however, this is not the right strategy for the United States to become a permanent place of relocation. Again, I will oppose Arkansas being used as such a relocation center.
The hardships facing these refugees and their families are beyond most of our understanding, and my thoughts and prayers are with them, but I will not support a policy that is not the best solution and that poses risk to Arkansans.”
Michigan Governor Rick Snyder– who is a supporter of Muslim refugees…
“Michigan is a welcoming state and we are proud of our rich history of immigration. But our first priority is protecting the safety of our residents. Given the terrible situation in Paris, I’ve directed that we put on hold our efforts to accept new refugees until the U.S. Department of Homeland Security completes a full review of security clearances and procedures. There will be difficult days ahead for the people of France and they remain in our thoughts and prayers. It’s also important to remember that these attacks are the efforts of extremists and do not reflect the peaceful ways of people of Middle Eastern descent here and around the world.”
Governor Bobby Jindal wrote a letter to Obama demanding more information on who the refugees were, and why his state hadn’t been kept in the loop. This could get interesting, if the momentum continues.
Get on the phones or the emails and start demanding that your representatives and governors stand against the flood of refugees now. Tell them to add their names to the list. Stop this administration from re-locating the thousands of refugees that want to relocate in our cities and towns across the country. The president won’t back down- we have to make him.
Your lives and those of your family could be at risk. There is NO proper vetting process for these people. There is no background check that can be done on thousands of refugees, particularly extremists who may have lied or falsified their documents. You can choose to sit this out, or you can act. ACT NOW.
