GOP Office in Volusia County, FL Vandalized by Gunfire

 In Politics

A Republican office in Volusia County, FL was vandalized by gunfire sometime between Sunday night and early Monday morning. At least four bullet holes were found in the windows, ceiling and walls, which damaged some of the sheetrock as well as the windows. Increased police patrols have been ordered for the area of Republican and Democratic headquarters in South Daytona. Police believe the shots may have been fired from a handgun inside a vehicle, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

“The bullets entered low and then went high inside the office making us think they were fired from a car, but it’s something we are looking at.” South Daytona police Captain Mark Cheatham

The shooting left campaign signs and shattered glass everywhere around the strip mall that is home to the Republican Executive Committee office.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the shooting, as no one was in the building at the time. Police are looking for anyone who might have video of the incident. They have not developed any suspects at this time.

The Republican chair for Volusia County, Tony Ledbetter, called out Democrats for the damage, although thus far no witnesses have been identified.

“You’ve got some sick person, and I’ll call them out, they’re Democrats. No Republican has any reason to come attack our location.” Tony Ledbetter

Jewel Dickson, the Democratic Party chair issued this statement:

“We are extremely disturbed to hear about today’s shooting. This kind of attempted violence has no place in Florida, and no place in politics. We hope that whoever carried out this shooting is found and brought to justice. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us, and everyone should feel safe in participating in our Democracy.”

Republic, lady, we’re a Republic. They’ll never get it, will they?
