Gwinnett County, Georgia – One suspect was killed, and two others are on the run after a homeowner shot back at three suspects with guns who kicked in her door on September 16. Police released clips of the surveillance video. Police are still looking for the surviving suspects.
Gwinnett County Police reported,
September 16, 2016, 6:00am: Gwinnett County Police are investigating the shooting death of a man who kicked in the front door of an Atlanta home and was shot by the homeowner. Shortly before 4am, police responded to the 3500 block of Spring Drive in Atlanta in unincorporated Gwinnett County. The homeowner told dispatchers that she and another male were awoken to the sounds of someone entering their home. The female retrieved her handgun and went to investigate the sounds. She discovered at least three males coming through the front door. At that point, she began firing rounds from her handgun and struck at least one suspect in the torso killing him. At least one of the other two suspects began exchanging gunfire with the homeowner as the suspects fled the scene.
The woman’s English is difficult to understand, so the dispatcher has difficulty getting the information straight. The following is the 911 call and the surveillance video.
The deceased suspect was identified as Antonio Leeks, 28, from Atlanta.
The homeowner is an Asian Seafood business owner. Police believe that the motive for the break-in was robbery.
The two suspects still at-large are to be considered “armed and dangerous.”
Their descriptions are:
Suspect 1: B/M, 6’00” tall, thin build, facial hair, WHI baseball cap, dark colored pants, and dark colored athletic shoes with reflective symbol (unknown).
Suspect 2: B/M, 6’00” tall, thin build, short BLK hair, facial hair, GRY hooded sweatshirt, dark colored pants, BLK athletic shoes.
So far, the Gwinnett Police have not been able to find the suspects, so are looking for any information about them from the public. They have released the surveillance video of the incident in hopes that someone will recognize the two men.
No charges have been brought against the woman who shot Antonio Leeks.
Georgia is a Castle Doctrine State and there is no “duty to retreat.” This is a prime example of why homeowners should be armed.
