Fugitive Shawn Christy Who Threatened Trump Arrested in Ohio
Wanted fugitive Shawn Christy was arrested in Miflin Township, Ohio (near Mansfield) on Friday. His threats against Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli and the President led police to designate him as “armed and dangerous” in a nationwide manhunt in June. He had also threatened other public officials.
“Keep it up Morganelli, I promise I’ll put a bullet in your head as soon as I put one in the head of President Donald J. Trump.” Shawn Christy
He also threatened to use “full lethal force on any law enforcement officer that tries to detain me.”
Tough words and circumstances don’t always work together
But on Sunday, Christy crashed a stolen car and fled the scene on foot.He was taken into custody on Friday…and no officers were injured. A police K-9 took him down at about 4:38 p.m. According to local news, about 100 federal, state and local law enforcement officers from Pennsylvania to Northeast Ohio to Columbus closed in on him after he crashed the car.
“He tried to flee multiple times as our dogs picked up on him, picked up on his scent. We continued to track. We left no opportunities for him to get away; we captured him by closing in on him…We got him from boots on the ground, from police officers that trekked through muck and got rained on. Today, I was out with them and I got absolutely soaked, but you appreciate the sacrifice that the men and women of law enforcement do to keep this community safe.” U.S. Marshal Brian Fitzgibbon to Fox 8
Christy called himself a survivalist, and was armed with a gun and knife at the time of his arrest. After arresting him, police stated that he was being treated for malnutrition.
More charges will likely be added at his hearing on Monday since he is a convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
Police tracked him from reports of small things being stolen from area residents- food out of the refrigerator, boots off a porch, etc.
Christy’s criminal history is long- and he was first in the limelight after harassing Sarah Palin, according to the Daily Mail. She had to file a restraining order against him in 2010.
Blue Lives Matter reported,
He was sentenced to probation after he pleaded guilty to also harassing Palin’s attorneys by telephone in 2011, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. He violated his probation and later ended up serving two years in federal prison.
When Christy posted the most recent threats to Facebook, he was already awaiting trial for an incident involving the former mayor in McAdoo, WFMZ reported.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault for allegedly swinging a stick at then-Mayor Stephen Holly in 2017, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.
Christy also pleaded guilty in April to making terroristic threats to a Berkheimer tax collection agent in Bangor. He was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to attend anger management classes in that case, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
He was also charged in 2015, after he harassed a teacher and an administrator at McCann School of Business, and pleaded guilty in both cases.
