Fresno, California Starbucks Customer Takes on Armed Robber

 In Domestic

A Fresno, California Starbucks was being robbed by a man in a Transformers mask that displayed a knife and a gun. One customer did not stand idly by filming it. He picked up a metal chair and proceeded to kick the robber’s butt.

Fresno Police released the surveillance video on July 21. The gun turned out to be fake. The knife wasn’t.

The would-be robber, identified as Ryan Flores, entered the coffee shop at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and demanded money from the Barista. He pulled a knife and threatened her with it. She was reluctant to give him any money, and just kept touching her till screens. So he whipped out a knife in addition to the “gun.” A customer noticed, however.

A regular patron of the store, Cregg Jerri, 58, saw what was happening and snagged a metal chair. Then he walked up behind the suspect and smacked him with it. Then a scuffle ensued, as the customer fought the armed robber.

Jerri was stabbed in the neck, but was still able to wrest the knife away from him and stab him several times before he ran away.

“The suspect stabbed the victim in his upper body, the confrontation continued and the victim was able to take the knife away from the suspect and they continued to fight. During that confrontation the victim stabbed the suspect several times and the suspect was able to flee from the Starbucks.” Lt. Stephen Viveros, Fresno Police Department

The suspect fled in a pickup truck,  but was arrested about 20 minutes later.

Mr. Jerri is in stable condition, but the suspect is in critical condition.

Mr. Jerri can’t be fired by Starbucks, since he was just a customer. He didn’t have a gun, so people can’t whine about shooting someone inside an establishment that bans guns in the first place. He didn’t whip out his cell phone and start filming like the teenagers who watched a man drown recently. He took action.

Even Fresno’s police chief described Mr. Jerri as a hero.

“It’s not something we recommend. In this case, it was a good outcome. No one died as a result of this incident but very well could have. But nonetheless, he’s a hero – there’s no question.” Chief Jerry Dyer

Mr. Jerri is employed as a Zone Sales Director at Frito Lay, and studied at Fresno State. He is listed as a Republican. And he knows how to kick a***.
