Former Judge Tracie Hunter – Justice Dispensed?
Tracie Hunter is a former Judge for juvenile court in Hamilton County, Ohio. In 2014, she was indicted by a grand jury for “backdating documents to prevent prosecutors from appealing her decisions against them and improperly used her position as judge to give confidential documents to her brother, a juvenile court employee who was in the process of getting fired,” according to Cincinnati.com. But it’s the July 22 incident that went viral as she was dragged out of the courtroom.
In October of 2014, the jury couldn’t come to a conclusion on most of the counts, so they convicted her of one count of giving confidential documents to her brother. The other counts were dropped.
In December 2014, the former judge was sentenced to 6 months in jail. The court allowed her to remain free as appeals were pursued. After the appeals were exhausted, the State Supreme Court said that her sentence could be imposed. On July 22, 2019, the courtroom erupted in chaos after Judge Patrick Dinkelacker read her sentence: 6 months plus one day.
As a woman jumped the railing, screaming and yelling, Tracie Hunter went limp in the arms of a deputy and had to be dragged out of the courtroom. She is now claiming injuries as a result of that situation. One clergyman also stated the bed in the jail cell doesn’t have a thick enough mattress for her bad back.
Just a doggone minute. She was convicted of a FELONY – that she only received 6 months plus one day is pretty generous of them. We’re pretty sure this is going to end up in another hearing somewhere because the judge(s) that sentenced her were all white. Tracie Hunter is Black.
The entire issue has not died down since she went to jail. Local clergy, and friends are still demonstrating with signs and megaphones.
The cost of Tracie’s trial stands at $2.1 Million. Her own costs are at $34,000. She will be required to recoup those costs or be in violation of her probation (reported by WLWT5).
If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.
