Federal Government Shutdown Over Border Wall Continues
As of Saturday we will have entered the 22nd day of the Federal Government partial shutdown over the border wall. The Border Patrol Agents say that people from all over the world are coming through our porous southern border – they list 41 countries and not all of them are Central American. India, Pakistan, China, all have been on the list of nations that attempt to enter the United States. We need a wall, a barrier, whatever it takes.
“Over 90% of our traffic occurs in areas where there is no fencing.” Border Patrol Spokesman
The following post is an excerpt from a Fox News report while President Trump visited the border in McAllen, Texas this last week.
This is not President Trump speaking. It’s a Border Patrol agent who sees every day the problems from illegals attempting to get into the US. Why do they come? Freebies. As long as Congress and states make the benefits of coming here more attractive than the problems, more people will come.
The fact is, a border wall would work. The Democrats can spin their web of lies, but the words of the Border Patrol agent ring true: they need a barrier.
The President doesn’t want to declare an emergency, although he has frequently mentioned the right to do so, because he wants Democrats to come to the negotiating table, according to Breitbart. He has been urged by Republicans to declare an emergency. But if he can get the Dems to participate, they won’t be able to create a legal snarl against him.
“The easiest solution is for me to call is a national emergency, I could do it very quickly. But I’m not going to do so fast because this is something Congress should do, we are waiting for the Democrats to vote.” President Trump
The Democrats are blaming Trump for their own foolishness. No surprise there. On the other side, however, some are giving up their checks until the government is funded and the money for a border wall or barrier is released.
CNS news reports:
“Fifty-eight congressmen and women and 13 senators have refused to take a paycheck since Dec. 22.
Fourteen new members of Congress have asked for their paycheck to be withheld until the government reopens. Crenshaw is one of them.”
Navy SEAL Veteran Rep Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), a freshman member, is one of those who has given up his paycheck.
I cannot in good conscience get paid while federal employees’ financial futures hang in the balance because of this partial government shutdown. There are a few members of Congress that still show integrity. Now if they could just get the Democrats to find some.
