Emergency Meeting of UN Security Council over Iran Protests

 In Politics

Even though US media has been reporting that the Iran protests have “died down,” Radio Free Europe states that there are continuing protests in Tehran, Shiraz, Dezful, Sanandaj, Tabriz, Ahvaz, Nowshahr, Kerman, and Aligudarz. Ambassador Nikki Haley called for a meeting of the UN Security Council to address the protests – which angered Russia and a handful of other nations because they say the US is “blatantly interfering in the sovereignty of a nation.” Russia demanded a closed door session on Friday.

“We must not be silent. The people of Iran are crying out for freedom. All freedom-loving people must stand with their cause.” Ambassador Nikki Haley

Thus far, official numbers state at least 21 people have been killed and 1,000 arrested in the protests, which erupted on December 28. Unofficial numbers say at least 45 have been killed.

One of the most significant views out of this whole situation is this tweet: “America is back and showing muscle.”
